“These people are part of what Maajid Nawaz has termed the “regressive Left” – pseudo-liberals who are so blinded by identity politics that they reliably take the side of the backward mob over one of its victims. Rather than protect individual women, apostates, intellectuals, cartoonists, novelists and true liberals from the intolerance of religious imbeciles, they protect theocrats from criticism.”A great quote from Sam Harris. A man who attacks all religions but is only ever criticised for “racism” when he talks about one particular religion.
One of my (numerous) character flaws is that I dislike being told what to do, say or think. Childishly, I am more likely to do, say or think something if I am told not to do something. I particularly dislike being told what o do by god botherers. When I was at university, my father told me not to go and see “The last temptation of Christ” because Cardinal Hume (then head of the Catholic Church in England) said it was anti-Christian. Of course, I went.
For centuries, standing up to the demands of religious bigots has been considered a progressive, left-wing stance. Unfortunately, some elements of the “Left” have swallowed identity politics whole and the mad doctrine of intersectionality holds that non-white people cannot be racist. But the worst racists, bigots, homophobes, misogynists and anti-Semites of our times are the followers of the fascist ideology of Islamism. If these folks weren’t (mostly) non-white then the people Harris criticises in the above quote would be the first to condemn their racism, bigotry, etc.
