I haven’t written very much recently as I started a new job in October and it is taking most of my mental bandwidth at the moment. Plus I’m exhausted when I get home in the evening.
I have commented (many times) before that words are vitally important in understanding the world. And the meaning of words can shift, sometimes dramatically, over time. In colonial America, ‘enthuisiast’ was a deadly insult as it implied brainless adherence to religion rather than sober thoughtfulness. If you read a book written before the early 1960s, it can be mildly amusing to see the word ‘gay’ used in its original context.
Which brings me to the word ‘Woke.’
This term apparently originated in the black community in the United States and meant you were conscious of racism. It has become ubiquitous in recent years as a generic term for people who claim to be aware of ‘injustice’ but it has also been used by right-wing foamers to decry anything even slightly left-wing – a bit like how Rik Mayall types call their opponents ‘Nazis.’ I use this word as shorthand for the kind of pseudo-radical I have always despised – rich, privileged, usually upper-middle or upper class, never had a real job. ‘Woke’ does seem to imply a whole host of attitudes including, but not limited to, support for the current neoliberal form of the European Union, opposition to ‘racism’ in its most obscure forms, antipathy to ‘isms’ and ‘phobias’ of all kinds and an overweening disdain for the plebs. Loud opposition to misogyny is one of the most obvious signs of being ‘Woke.’ Which makes it all the more puzzling as to why women’s hardwon rights are being sacrificed to some men and to far right religionists.
There are something like 34,000,000 women and girls in the UK and approaching 4,000,000,000 in the world. It is a biological fact that women have different physical characteristics to men and different medical needs related to those differences. However, it appears that to some ‘Woke’ true believers the rights and needs of biological women and girls should be sacrificed to the protect the feelings of a certain type of man. Hospitals and other medical provides are changing age-old descriptions such as ‘breastfeeding’ to ‘chestfeeding,’ ‘breast milk’ to ‘human milk’ and even ‘mother’ to ‘birthing parent.’ Some have gone further and are even removing the word ‘woman’ in favour of ‘cervix owner,’ ‘menstruator’ or, insultingly, ‘bleeder.’ All this for the express intention of avoiding ‘offence’ (pfft) to a certain type of transwoman.
This is absolutely NOT an attack on transgender people. It is about a certain type of transwoman, like the revolting ‘Jessica’ Yaniv or the of-so-feminine ‘Eliana’ Rubin, who appear to believe that their feelings are more important than women’s health. The astonishing fact is that whilst there were 640,370 live births in England and Wales in 2019, since 2017 only two transmen have given birth. That’s right, two. We are not talking about minority rights here. We are talking about a tiny minority within a tiny minority who are causing a distortion are amount of sound and fury among the ‘Woke.’ I am fairly certain that the average transgender person does not embark on a life-changing transition for attention but simply wants to live their life as they see fit. And, whilst this may well be a cruel remark, why is it always the least convincing transwomen, like the aforementioned Yaniv and Rubin, who are always the gobbiest? Ho hum.
It is not only militant men who think they are women whose rights appear to outweigh those of biological women and girls. The mindless cult of Islam also trumps the rights and safety of the entire female sex in ‘Woke’ world. I am not just referring to the hideous grooming scandals across the north of England or the bestial behaviour in Cologne on New Year’s Eve 2015, both of which the media tried to suppress. For the ‘Woke’ it seems that when push comes to shove, the rights of far right Islamists not to have their misogynistic views criticised outweighs the rights of women to safety and equality. That the hilarious oxymoron ‘Muslim feminist’ is not subjected to universal ridicule is a real mystery; this is a religion after all where the ‘perfect’ book, as revealed to the ‘perfect’ man, states that women are worth only half as much as a man in terms of inheritance (Sura 4:11) and testimony (2:282). Not only that, but the Koran and Hadith both explicitly allow men to beat their ‘disobedient’ wives…
“Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great.” (4:34)
“And take in your hand a green branch and beat her with it, and do not break your oath…” (38:44)
“A woman came to Muhammad and begged him to stop her husband from beating her. Her skin was bruised so badly that it is described as being “greener” than the green veil she was wearing. Muhammad did not admonish her husband, but instead ordered her to return to him and submit to his sexual desires.” Sahih Bukhari 72, 715
“Muhammad struck his favourite wife, Aisha, in the chest one evening when she left the house without his permission. Aisha narrates, “He struck me on the chest which caused me pain.” Sahih Muslim 4, 2127
“Iyas bin ‘Abd Allah bin Abi Dhubab reported the Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) as saying: Do not beat Allah’s handmaidens, but when ‘Umar came to the Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) and said: Women have become emboldened towards their husbands, he (the Prophet) gave permission to beat them.” Abu Dawud 2141
But don’t worry, the geniuses at The Guardian know the real reason Muslim women and girls are quiet. Bet you can’t guess what it is before you click on this link.
The politics of identity are bankrupt. ‘Woke’ is both a fascist ideology and akin to a religious cult (see ‘Woke’: Fascism or Religion? and The ‘Woke’ Commandments). It is my absolute belief that my mother, sister, wife, goddaughter and all other women and girls are equal to men in all ways and at all times. I do not need to qualify this statement in any way. The medical needs of the female sex outweigh the needs of a few deluded men and their rights to safety and equality outweigh the rights of religious nutters not to have their Bronze Age beliefs criticised.
