The ‘Woke’ Commandments Update

Is water racist?

Original post – The ‘Woke’ Commandments

In the original post, I suggested that one of the key commandments for being ‘Woke’ was…

“Don’t forget to project an air of smug superiority.”

Doesn’t that sound like all the pompous, too-much-time-on-their-hands Twitter obsessives who have been on social media constantly since March?

However, I have realised that in this bizarre year I have missed one of the most obvious characteristics for the ‘Woke’ – the ratchet effect.

I am astonished that the Savilites allowed this hate crime to be broadcast on one of their channels…

I simply do not find it credible that most ‘celebrities’ really believe the vacuous garbage they spout about, well, everything. It is politics as performance – parading their ‘liberal’ credentials for all to see whilst living lives of obscene luxury far removed from the poor people they claim to care about. A darker thought suggests that many ‘celebrities’ feel it is necessary to pander to the latest political fashion for fear of losing their jobs; recent years have shown just how vicious the ‘Woke’ can be at the merest hint of wrongthink.

The ratchet effect of ‘Woke’ appears to be that in order to stand out from the crowd, it is necessary to take ever more extreme stances on political issues. It is not enough to demand equal rights for gay people, everyone must ‘celebrate’ the LGBT+ lifestyle. It is not enough to oppose racism, white people must acknowledge their ‘privilege’ and atone for the sins of remote ancestors. You get a situation where it becomes difficult to distinguish parody from serious comment…

“This is what I’m talking about. It’s a slippery slope. One minute you’re carrying a reusable water bottle. Fine. The next minute you’re arguing that water is racist.”

The only way to deal with the seriously ‘Woke’ is to say what Tracey Ullman says at the end of the video – ‘fuck off.’

A video from The Jam to cheer you up.
